Pageant Press: No Reality for Miss America

CONFIDENTIAL

Dear State Executive Directors,

We are delighted to announce that the 2010 Miss America Pageant will once again be broadcast on TLC, Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

The 2010 Miss America Pageant returns to Planet Hollywood for a week of exciting preliminary competitions, culminating in a brand new live telecast on TLC, Saturday evening with some exciting new production highlights.

We are thrilled to be returning to Planet Hollywood again for our 5th consecutive year. The 2009 Pageant exceeded our expectations, and we are continuing to build on new traditions in Las Vegas.

This year, our 53 Miss America contestants will arrive in town the last week of January to begin preliminary competitions in interview, lifestyle & fitness, talent and evening wear. The three nights of preliminaries will take place on January 26, 27, and 28 at Planet Hollywood’s Theatre for the Performing Arts.

As it is important that we all stay in the same hotel, given the economic climate, we are re-negotiating the room rates. Both Planet Hollywood and MAO will be offering incentives this year for those who reserve their rooms through MAO. Please DO NOT call Planet Hollywood at this time to make hotel reservations, as more information will follow.

The Reality Show, which has been aired the past two years, will not be presented in the same manner this year. Instead, TLC will broadcast a one-hour special highlighting the contestants before the live show. There will be some form of a voting component, but to date, it has not been finalized.

Please release the previous Reality Show dates that were reserved in October for your contestants. TLC plans on shooting TV packages with the contestants attending the MAOTeen Pageant in August. They will also shoot in Las Vegas prior to the live show. Based on this news, I hope as many of our new state titleholders will be in Orlando, to not only support the Teens, but to also be available for some events planned by MAO and TLC.

Best of luck for a wonderful pageant season!

Thank you,

Art McMaster
