Best of Luck to Miss West Central Ohio / Lima Square Fair / Crystal Lake!

This Friday night, August 6th, at the Civic Center in downtown Lima three rhinestone tickets to Miss Ohio will be awarded: Miss West Central Ohio, Miss Lima Square Fair and the brand new, Miss Crystal Lake! The preshow begins at 7:30, with the pageant at 8 p.m. The $17 ticket includes an after party, complete with cake! The outgoing Miss West Central Ohio, Katie Bowen, is a graduate of Ohio Northern University, where this intelligent beauty earned a degree in Clinical Laboratory Science! She is a flutist who turned heads this summer at Miss Ohio with her soft new look.

Katie's sister titleholder is Shannon O'Neill, a woman who is a great example of the importance of consistency; although this vocalist did not win any preliminary or interview awards at Miss Ohio 2010, she was First Runner-up! Shannon will not be crowning her successor at the pageant. Instead, Shannon O'Neill, Miss Lima Square Fair 2009, is competing. This is a common and acceptable practice at double and triple crown pageants. It is up to each ED to decide if a previous titleholder may compete again; when a contestant does, she may not give a farewell speech or crown the new Miss. In recent years Nanciann Strosnider did this at Miss Lake Erie/ Northern Ohio, as did our reigning Miss Ohio, Becky Minger, with Miss Muamee Valley/ Fallen Timbers/ All*American City. In fact, Miss MV/ FT/ AAC and Miss WCO/ LFS have a fun, intertwined history:

In 2007 Shannon O'Neill was Miss West Central Ohio while Becky Minger was Miss Maumee Valley. The next year Shannon became Miss Maumee Valley, but Becky didn't crown her because she became Miss Fallen Timbers at the same pageant. The third title given at that pageant was Miss All*American City; she was Katie Bowen. So, Shannon, Becky and Katie were sister-titleholders at Miss Ohio 2009. Then Shannon and Katie became sister-titleholders again as Miss Lima Square Fair and Miss West Central Ohio. And then... E.D. Eric Wagener was jumping in the aisle at Miss Ohio 2010 to see Becky and Shannon, two former Miss Maumee Valleys, as the last two standing!

  1. Correction: Alyssa Waldman is from Defiance but attends Otterbein College, NOT Defiance College. :) :)
