Courtney Monk of Defiance was announced the winner in the final preliminary Miss Ohio Scholarship pageant Sunday in Medina. She will carry the title of Miss Buckeye State to the Miss Ohio pageant in Mansfield this June. Monk will be competing for the crown of Miss Ohio 2009, with the winner representing Ohio at the Miss America Scholarship pageant in Las Vegas. The 2008 Defiance High grad studied dance with the Defiance Dance Studio and was a featured dancer in last year's Miss Ohio pageant. She is a student majoring in music education at Anderson University, Anderson, Ind.
