Miss America's Homecoming

This past weekend homecoming festivities were held in Indiana for Miss America, Katie Stam.

Ohio's Karissa Martin was invited, but could not attend due to previous engagements, including crowning the new Miss Muskingum Valley. Some ignorant fans criticized First Runner-up, Miss Georgia, for not attending, but she was understandably at her state's spring forum.

Here are some cute photos I found online from the events:

Miss America honored by Indiana legislators, works out with governor

Indianapolis - Miss America Katie Stam joined Gov. Mitch Daniels Thursday to talk about the importance of fitness and health.

The pair worked out together at the National Institute Of Fitness and Sport (NIFS) on the IUPUI campus.

Stam and the governor also met with a sixth grade class from KIPP academy to stress to them how crucial is for them to stay active and healthy.

...Stam spent the morning with Indiana legislators... Lawmakers said Stam was a smart and talented person who represents the state well.

A look inside the life of Miss America
By Joy Dumandan

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana's own
Miss America, Katie Stam, is on a non-stop tour through her home state. Since the moment she was crowned, she's been criss-crossing the United States. Stam went to the Super Bowl in Tampa, Capitol Hill, Oscar parties in Los Angeles, red carpet premieres and much more.

..."I always joke around with people and say my address is where ever my feet are at that moment. So right now, WISH-TV," said Stam.

...Katie always has a travel companion. "They're not just my assistant or my bodyguard sometimes, but they're also my best friend," said Stam.

But there are other things people don't know.
"You don't drive a car for a year. You don't go to the grocery store for a year," said Stam. Clothing is provided, but she wears her own shoes and accessories. Plus, she usually does her own hair and makeup.

"Here's the big one, laundry. Because not all hotels have laundry services and um, I've gotten real good at washing my clothes in the bathtub," said Stam.

Even though her days are booked from morning to night, Stam runs on passion, passion for her new job and treasuring every moment as Miss America.

Oh, finally, pageant fans are clamoring over Katie's relationship status after reading this blurb found on Robin Leach's blog:

For the first time since winning the 2009 Miss America title at Planet Hollywood in January, Katie Stam got home to Indiana. Her whirlwind Hoosier tour began in her hometown of Seymour where the mayor declared it Miss America Day. There was a parade and proclamation in Katie’s honor, and she took her crown to school to show kids from all grades what it looked like. They made their own paper crowns for the day! Katie also spent time with her family and fiance and picked up clothes for her year on the road.

Some are adamant that this is not accurate and that Katie and her boyfriend are not engaged. My reaction is that I don't care either way and I don't understand why anyone else should! This is one of the most annoying topics in pageantry, so much so that I'm going all caps -

BEING ENGAGED IS NOT AGAINST THE RULES.
BEING ENGAGED DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN A WOMAN IS DONE COMPETING.
BEING ENGAGED DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY EFFECT A WOMAN'S COMMITMENT TO THE CROWN.
***
BEING ENGAGED IS NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!
