New queen awaits return to Miss OhioMarch 23, 2009

Newly crowned Miss Mansfield Nanciann Strosnider said she hopes to break the curse of the fourth-runner-up when she makes her fifth appearance on the Miss Ohio stage in June."I've made it to the top 10 twice and I've been fourth runner-up twice," said Strosnider, 23, of Amelia, who won the Miss Mansfield Scholarship Program Saturday night at Mansfield Senior High School. Singing her trademark song, "Happy Days Are Here Again," Strosnider also garnered the talent and interview preliminary awards. The vocalist said she most likely will perform the same song at the Miss Ohio competition.
A graduate of Elon and Baldwin-Wallace colleges with degrees in broadcast journalism and music theater, Strosnider is a graduate student at Mississippi State University studying broadcast meteorology.
...Strosnider took a few moments to hold the youngest member at the brunch, Katelyn Bednarz, 5 months, whose mother Teri Tinsman Bednarz is business manager for Miss Ohio.Strosnider laughed as the teething youngster drooled on her arm and curiously looked at the many new faces.
Miss Mansfield will promote her platform, "Reconnecting a missing link -- encouraging and sustaining fine arts education," during her reign.
A seasoned performer, Strosnider said she loves the stage and works with high school students in Cincinnati to prepare them for musical theater auditions before college.
...Strosnider also keeps busy each summer as an emcee and choreographer for the National American Miss program, which requires traveling everywhere from New York to California. As a girl, she participated in the program."It encourages community involvement," she said.
...She started participating in the Miss America Scholarship Program at 17 because of the scholarship opportunities.
"Actually my mom (Mariann) competed in the Miss America program when she was in college (in Kentucky)," she said. "I'm happy to be continuing the legacy."
..."It's never easy, but I go into it every year with a clean slate and an open mind and I pray. I actually let the cards fall where they may," she said.
