The Miss America Organization Gets Healthy with Dalena Farms

Linwood, NJ – June 12, 2008 – The Miss America Organization has announced a new partnership with Dalena Farms, a Madera, California based farming company that grows and markets Sweet D Brand Onions.

Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund, as part of her personal platform of promoting healthy lifestyles with good nutrition, will support and promote Sweet D Brand Onions as an essential ingredient to eating healthy. Kirsten will act as spokesperson for Dalena Farms, promoting their onions during her travels across the country.

"Having Kirsten as our spokesperson is a wonderful opportunity to educate people of all ages about the many health benefits onions have to offer," said Lisa Dalena, of Dalena Farms. "Her presence on our packaging, and her personal appearances supporting our onions make people aware of Sweet D Brand Onions and increase the overall consumption of onions. It has been a pleasure to work with everyone at the Miss America Organization."

One of Kirsten’s first national appearances as the spokesperson for Dalena Farms will be on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Kirsten will perform the National Anthem for the Meijer Indy 300 in Indianapolis.

“We are excited about our new partnership with the Dalena Family and their farm,” said Art McMaster, president and CEO of the Miss America Organization. “As always, our program promotes healthy lifestyles, and fitness is a key component in our competition. Our contestants know the importance of eating healthy, and Sweet D is a natural partner for us.”

  1. This partnership may seem kinda "corny" but the message is really good. Proper nutrition is the key to good health, prevention and curing. I am so glad their produce is pesticide free!!! Pesticides do cause cancer and other issues. BTW, there is a good way of rinsing produce of pesticides. I soak mine in cool or lukewarm water and put a few drops of peroxide in it to release the residue. I then final rinse it. It works great!
