LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM RECEIVES MANY AWARDS AT STATE PAGEANT Last week June 15 thru June 21 was Miss Ohio Week in Mansfield, Ohio. The Portsmouth area had five representatives in the competition, two Miss Contestants competing for the Title of Miss Ohio and three Teen Contestants competing for the Title of Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen.
Miss Southern Ohio Outstanding Teen, Stephanie Sparks, 17 yr old senior from Green High School and daughter of David and Nancy Sparks was THIRD RUNNER-UP in the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Pageant.
Miss Portsmouth's Outstanding Teen, Kara Beth Wagner a 15 yr old sophomore at Wheelersburg High School and the daughter of Dan and Tammy Wagner was named as SECOND RUNNER-UP in the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Pageant.
Miss Scioto Valley, Megan Wombacker, was awarded the Miss America State Community Service Award with her work on “Giving Voice to Vision,” Eye Care Prevention along with a $1,000.00 dollar scholarship. Megan also is Ohio's entry for the National Community Service Award that comes with a $5,000 dollar scholarship sponsored by the Miss America Organization.
Miss Portsmouth, Katie Camp, named one of the Top 10 Semi-Finalist during the live broadcast on ONN. Katie was awarded a $400.00 scholarship as a semi-finalist and also made the Miss Portsmouth Scholarship Program a $250.00 Grass Roots Scholarship from the Ohio Elks Association for being in the top 10.
Lastly, Miss Portsmouth and Miss Scioto Valley Executive Director, Greg Davis, was awarded two honors last week. First, he was presented with his 20-year service pin from the Miss American Organization and secondly was given the Paul Slaughter State "Volunteer of the Year" Award for the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program.
